Eric Davis has passed on to Glory

Eric and his sonsJohn 11:25: Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live!”

I received a call from Pastor Steve Walker about 30 minutes ago. Eric Davis, husband, father, servant of the church, is now with his Lord and King. On behalf of the Davis family, I want to thank you for your prayers during this time. I also want to encourage you to continue praying for Heather and the children.

Eric’s funeral will be Saturday.

I have been preaching through the Book of Ecclesiastes at church. One thing that resonates through the book is the message of God’s sovereignty and our frailty. He has appointed the time of our birth and the time of our death. It is thus important for us to understand that God directs all things for His glory and for our sanctification. Romans 8:28 teaches that all things work together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. That means that this trial works out for Eric’s good – and for the good of Eric’s family as well – as excruciating as the loss is. And God is glorified.

God is good and His mercies never end.

Father, I want to thank you for allowing me to know Eric Davis as a friend. His joyous outlook on life was contagious. His love for his family was inspiring. His commitment to the church was convicting. I will miss him. I am the better man for having known Eric; yet Eric now has a better home. I know he now stands before Your Throne worshiping you, not on his merits, but because of the grace of Your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ.

And, O God, I know You are our only help in time of need. And so I ask that You would be with Heather and the children during this time of grief; strengthen and quiet them with Your mercy. Comfort them through Your Word and through Your church and let them hold on to the blessed hope of their reunion together again in Heaven.

I offer this prayer in the Name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

  1. Oh so desperately sad.

    Weeping with them that weep

I really thought he’d pull through.

From the other side of the ocean, but united in the the same hope. Amen to your prayers for Heather and family

    So sad

  2. Hi Henrietta,

We really thought the Lord would bring healing to Eric as well. This has been a day of choking back tears. Yet the Lord’s plan is always perfect.

    God is good,

  3. Thank you for your words of hope James, and your prayer.
I have only known this family via their blog.
They touched my life and I was so gutted for them when I read this news a few moments ago.
I could see the seriousness of the situation but I never thought he wouldn’t pull through.
Please pass on my love and condolences to his family from me and my family over here in New Zealand.

  4. Like Raewyn, I am only aquainted with the Davis’ through their blog. Only God knows the far-reaching impact this family will have on the world through the web that they might not otherwise have had if Eric had been healthy.

Thank you for the reminder that God is Sovereign and we are frail, Mr. McDonald.

May all the members of Eric’s family feel God’s peace and comfort, from Mrs. Davis all the way down to Lil’ Cowboy and Brown Sugar. Praying in Peoria, Gloris
